Inside the huddle
Growing up, Lexie Moskovit could often be found sporting a team jersey. As a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, she also loved spending weekends watching football and baseball with her dad. “I’m a born and raised Boston sports fan, so athletics has always been a big part of me,” she said.
Moskovit took marketing classes in high school and found interest in the ever-changing industry, especially brand management, and combined her marketing concentration with another in management entrepreneurship because of the creative and dynamic opportunities the fields offer. She stumbled into an internship somewhat serendipitously with the Cleveland Browns, bringing together her academic pursuits and love of sports.
“Having spent most of my life on the East Coast, it was a great opportunity to explore a new city and imbed myself in the renowned Browns community and organization,” she said.
During her first summer, Moskovit was an intern on the fan experience and special events team. She worked the two weeks of training camp, contributed to research projects, and assisted on-site at unique events, her favorite being the Hall of Fame induction for Joe Thomas, a renowned offensive tackle for the Browns. “Bringing fans into Cleveland to experience the love of the franchise and the game was so special,” she said. “Not many people get to contribute to that firsthand.”
She was invited back the following summer, this time working with the marketing team, contributing largely to individual research projects including outreach to underrepresented fans, single day ticket sales trends, and influencer marketing engagement.
Over the two summers she formed many relationships among her fellow interns and Browns’ employees. “The Browns are rich with diversity and talent, and it was great to see how many female employees are in the organization,” she said. “It is encouraging to see the rise of women in the sports world. I felt like I belonged.”
“Every single day in the sports world is a new, fast-paced chance to do something unique. Between training camp, pre-season, games, and events, there are always things to do, and I really enjoyed the high intensity environment.”
She is still considering her options for life after graduation, but in her final semester plans to enroll in a Sports Marketing class to stay on top of trends in the sports industry and opportunities that arise. Even though she is back on campus, Moskovit has remained connected to the Browns, traveling to Washington, D.C. earlier this fall to cheer on the team as they played the Commanders. And while she is a new, fervent fan of the Browns, says she is still a Patriots fan at heart.
