  • CSX Chair in Management and Accounting

    The CSX Corporation, formed in 1980 by the merger of the Chessie System and Seaboard Coastline Industries, has long recognized the role of a strong educational system in the growth and quality of life in our country.

    In 1983, CSX demonstrated its support of the University of Richmond with a gift to the University to establish the CSX Chair in Management and Accounting.

  • The Patricia A. and George W. Wellde, Jr. Distinguished Chair in Finance

    The Patricia A. and George W. Wellde, Jr. Distinguished Chair in Finance was established in 2001 by Patricia and George Wellde to attract an internationally prominent teacher-scholar who would join the Finance Department, adding senior leadership in research and teaching to an already strong department. The distinguished chairholder leverages the department’s existing capabilities toward achieving outstanding scholarship, teaching, and career opportunities for students. George Wellde is a leader in the finance industry and a graduate of the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business.

  • Joseph A. Jennings Chair in Business

    Joseph A. Jennings, born in Richmond, VA, obtained a B.S. degree from the University of Richmond in 1949, and an advanced degree from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. In 1978 he was named the recipient of the University of Richmond Board of Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award, and in 1980 he received an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree from the University. He was elected Rector of the UR Board of Trustees effective July 1, 1987. A distinguished leader in his community, respected businessman during his 47-year career with Crestar Financial Corporation (formerly United Virginia Bankshares), and University of Richmond Trustee since 1969, "Jack" Jennings has served his alma mater in many capacities, including his work with the Annual Fund, the Our Time in History campaign, and as a class agent.

    In 1983 a grant from United Virginia Bankshares was made to the University to establish the Joseph A. Jennings Chair in Business in recognition of Mr. Jennings’ years of service to the University. Additional gifts from friends and alumni have helped to make this a fully funded professorship.

  • The Rigsby Fellow in Economics

    Current Holder:

    The Rigsby Fellow in Economics was established in 2002 by Robert E. Rigsby, to attract a distinguished scholar with a commitment to and demonstrated facility for teaching and scholarship. Mr. Rigsby is a graduate of the University of Richmond with a BA degree in Economics in 1971. He is currently a university trustee. He retired in 2002 as President and Chief Operating Officer of Dominion’s delivery business unit which includes Dominion Virginia, Dominion North Carolina, and other units. He had been with Dominion’s Virginia Power subsidiary since 1971.

  • The W. David Robbins Chair in Strategic Management

    In the fall of 1986, Mr. Robert Jepson, Jr. of Elmhurst, Illinois, a 1964 graduate, gave the University of Richmond’s E. Claiborne Robins School of Business a gift to establish the W. David Robbins Chair in Strategic Management, formerly called the W. David Robbins Chair of Business Policy, to honor the man he called "my favorite professor." Mr. Jepson was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Jepson Corporation, a diversified holding company, which he built into a 16-company conglomerate. When he sold it in 1989, the Fortune 500 company was doing over $700 million in annual sales.

    Mr. Jepson also received his Master of Commerce degree from the University of Richmond in 1975 and an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree in 1987. He was president of both Omicron Delta Kappa, the honorary national leadership society and the School of Business Administration Student Government Association while a student. The business school faculty unanimously voted him the Norman Medal as the most outstanding graduate of 1964.

  • The E. Claiborne Robins Distinguished Professorship in Business

    E. Claiborne Robins was born in Richmond Virginia to Claiborne (Richmond College, 1894) and Martha Taylor Robins. He earned his B.A. degree at the University of Richmond in 1931, and his B.S. degree from the School of Pharmacy at the Medical College of Virginia in 1933. He then joined his mother and two other employees in the family business, which was begun in 1866 by his grandfather, A.H. Robins, as a small apothecary and manufacturing chemist’s shop. By 1970 E. Claiborne Robins was Chairman of the Board of the A.H. Robins Company, a multinational corporation engaged primarily in the manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals and consumer products. He retired in 1990, following the sale of A.H. Robins Company to American Home Products Company. Since 1969, E. Claiborne Robins, distinguished alumnus and University trustee, along with his family has been the University’s greatest benefactor. Mr. Robins received the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Richmond in 1960 and the University’s first Paragon Medal, its highest award, in 1986.

    The E. Claiborne Robins Distinguished Professorship in Business was established to honor the memory of Mr. Robins, who died in 1995. In his will, Mr. Robins indicated that some of the proceeds of his bequest might preferably be used to create one or more new professorships. Given Mr. Robins’ extraordinary leadership and talents in business, and his association with the Business School since its being named for him in 1979, it was appropriate that the University’s E. Claiborne Robins School of Business house this endowed distinguished professorship.

    Individuals holding the Robins Distinguished Professorship will be nominated by the Dean of the Business School to the Provost and be approved by the President. There are no limits as to the academic specialty of the chair holder nor regarding the number of terms an individual may hold the chair. It is one of four Robins distinguished professorships at the University of Richmond.

  • The F. Carlyle Tiller Chair in Business

    F. Carlyle Tiller has been closely associated with the University of Richmond for many years. He received his B.A. degree from the University in 1948 and after receiving his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania in 1950, joined Wheat First Securities Inc., serving as its President and Chief Executive Officer from 1971 until his retirement in 1986. During his 36-year career with Wheat, Mr. Tiller also served the University of Richmond in several capacities. He has lectured on investments at the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business and, as a member of the Board of Trustees since 1974, has served as Chairman of the Executive Committee and as Rector of the Board. He is a recipient of the Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award and in 1976 was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree.

    In 1983 Wheat First Securities made a grant to establish the F. Carlyle Tiller Chair in Business to honor this man who has given so unselfishly of his time and resources to further the educational goals of the University of Richmond. Additional gifts of friends and alumni have helped to create this chair.

  • The David Meade White Jr. Chair in Business

    Current Holder:
     Doug Bosse 

    The David Meade White Jr. Chair in Business was established in 2001 in honor of David Meade White, Jr., (Law 1939), who was active in the University in many ways and whose family had multiple ties to the University. The purpose of the chair is to attract distinguished educators to the Robins School of Business faculty. The Chairholder is an eminent scholar and business leader.
