As an educator, Dr. Petter has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students across a
range of topics, including introductory management information systems, business analytics,
data management, and IT project management. Her classroom approach emphasizes helping
students connect technology and analytical concepts to real-world business challenges. She is
deeply committed to helping students develop the strategic thinking, ethical awareness, and
essential soft skills needed to navigate a dynamic professional landscape.

Dr. Petter’s leadership approach is rooted in a career-long commitment to student success,
faculty development, and real-world relevance. She was drawn to the Robins School’s unique
position as a top-ranked business program anchored in a premier liberal arts university. Deeply
aligned with Richmond’s mission of holistic student development and impactful scholarship, she

lives of purpose and responsible leadership.

Prior to joining the University of Richmond in 2026, Dr. Petter served as the Acting Dean, Peter
C. Brockway Chair of Strategic Management, and Professor of Management Information
Systems at the Wake Forest University School of Business. Her broad institutional perspective
is further informed by her tenure as Wake Forest’s inaugural Associate Provost for Faculty
Affairs, where she worked across the university to support faculty growth and strengthen
institutional policies.

Before her time at Wake Forest, Dr. Petter was the Ben H. Williams Professor of Information
Systems and Business Analytics at Baylor University, where she directed the Information
Systems Ph.D. program, and an Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Her academic career is grounded in early professional experience in the IT industry, where she
worked as a software developer and consultant.

Dr. Petter earned a B.S. in computer science from Berry College and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from
Georgia State University. Originally from Georgia, she is glad to remain in the Southeast and
looks forward to exploring the Richmond area and becoming an active part of the university
community alongside her husband, Rick.
