Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)

The Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) provides valuable, real-time experiential learning in securities analysis and portfolio management. Managers gain real-world experience in topics and theories that are discussed in the classroom. SMIF is the capstone to investment studies in a sequence of courses developed by the finance department.

Grace Wightman, General Manager

Wightman

Grace is pursuing majors in Business Administration and Leadership Studies with a concentration in Finance. She is originally from Chatham, N.J. This past summer, Grace worked at the Morgan Stanley home office as a Wealth Management summer analyst and sat on the Financial Wellness team, where she learned about the firm’s initiative to financially empower corporate clients and their employees. Previously, she worked as a summer analyst for a Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor, where she learned how to analyze and dissect an advisor’s book of business. After graduation, Grace will be returning to Morgan Stanley as a Capital Markets analyst. Outside of SMIF, Grace is the head of recruitment of her sorority and a member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity.

Michael Bocchiaro: Vice President of Recruitment, Value Fund

Bocchiaro

Michael is from Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J., and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Italian Studies. This past summer, Michael worked in Washington, D.C., as a summer analyst at Acorn Growth Companies, a middle-market private equity firm focused exclusively on Aerospace, Defense, Intelligence, and Space opportunities. Previously, he interned at Old Farm Partners, a New York-based fund of hedge funds firm focused on global macro strategies. Outside of SMIF, Michael is the treasurer of his fraternity and enjoys playing soccer.

Ying Zhu: Head of Growth Fund

Ying is an international student from China, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics. This past summer, Ying interned at BlackRock as a full-time summer analyst with Alternatives (Private Equity). During her sophomore summer, she worked as a wealth and asset management intern for a non-profit organization. On campus, Ying is a member of the DSP fraternity as well as a tutor for Finance and Calculus in the Academic skills center. Outside of Finance, she enjoys traveling, watching movies, and playing the drum set.

Will McKane: Head of Value Fund

McKane

Will is pursuing a major in Accounting with a concentration in Finance. He is from Charlotte, N.C. This past summer, he interned at Ernst & Young as an auditing intern. His work focused on auditing financial services organizations. In addition to SMIF, Will is a Speech Consultant and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi. Following graduation, Will plans to work full-time in audit for Ernst & Young.

 

John Mulligan: ESG Manager, Growth Fund

John is from Emerson, N.J., pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. This past summer, John interned at Stifel as an equity research summer associate on the Trucking, Logistics, and Government Services team. In the summer following his sophomore year, John interned with MacKay Shields, a fixed-income asset management firm, working with the Client Services and ESG teams. John also interned part-time through his sophomore year with Marriott & Co., a boutique investment bank focused on sell-side M&A. Outside of SMIF, John serves as the Senior Vice President of the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity and volunteers at the Ridge Elementary School as a Bonner Scholar.

Charlie Aprahamian: Value Fund

Born and raised just down the road from UR’s campus, Charlie is a Richmond local pursuing a major in Economics with a concentration in Finance. This past summer, Charlie worked as a private equity summer analyst at NewSpring Capital in Radnor, Pa. At NewSpring, he split his time between the firm’s growth equity and healthcare strategies. Also, during his junior year, Charlie worked part-time at Blue Heron Capital, a growth equity firm based in Richmond. In addition to his role in SMIF, Charlie is the treasurer of his fraternity and is a member of the Coalition of Christain Outreach. Next year, Charlie will be returning to NewSpring Capital as a private equity investor on the firm's healthcare strategy.

Stephen Calouri: Value Fund

Calouri

Stephen is pursuing a business administration major with concentrations in finance and accounting. He is from Garden City, N.Y. This past summer, Stephen worked at FTI Consulting in their Corporate Finance & Restructuring group. After graduation, he will be returning to FTI as a full-time consultant in their New York City office. Outside of SMIF, Stephen is involved in the Peer Advisors and Mentors group and is a member of the club lacrosse team. 

 

Lisa Feng: Value Fund

Lisa is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a double major in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. This past summer, Lisa held an internship at EdgeConneX as a financial analyst. At the firm, she worked within the Electric Vehicle team, underwriting commercial real estate acquisitions. During her sophomore summer, Lisa interned at Shanghai EverBright Investment Management Co., Ltd. as a private equity intern, investing mainly in the semiconductor and EV industries. Outside of SMIF, Lisa holds a leadership position in BlockCrew Hip-hop dance club and is a member of Greek life.

Brie Grossman: ESG Manager, Value Fund

Brie grew up in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and is completing a dual degree in Leadership Studies and Business Administration (concentration in Finance), with a minor in dance. This past summer she interned at Barclays as a Markets Analyst, rotating through the Cash Sales Trading and Structured Derivatives desks. After graduation, she will return to their Strategic Transactions Group full time. Outside of SMIF, Brie enjoys serving as a Gary L. McDowell student fellow, member of AKPsi, member of University Dancers, and working as a writing consultant.

Bryan Kurey: Growth Fund

Bryan Kurey is pursuing a major in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Entrepreneurship. This past summer, Bryan worked at NewSpring Capital as a private equity summer analyst within their Growth and Healthcare strategies. Previously, he worked as an investment banking summer analyst at Matrix Capital Markets Group where he worked alongside the Downstream Energy and Convenience Retail team. Outside of SMIF, Bryan is a member of the Honor Council and Vice President of Finance for Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. After graduation, Bryan will continue with NewSpring Capital as a Growth Equity Analyst.

Sam Lawler: Value Fund

Sam is pursuing a major in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Philosophy. This past summer, Sam worked at NewSpring Capital, a lower-middle market private equity firm in Wayne, Pa., as a summer analyst, rotating through the firm's Mezzanine, Holdings, and Franchise strategies. Previously, he worked at Pervalle Global, a global macro hedge fund in New York City, as a Summer Analyst focusing primarily on digital assets. Outside of SMIF, Sam is President of his fraternity and Co-Founder and Vice President of Spider Blockchain Club. Sam hails from South Orange, New Jersey.

Hampton Massie: Growth Fund

Massie

Hampton is pursuing a major in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Accounting and a minor in Philosophy. He is from Rappahannock County, Va. Most recently, Hampton worked for Matrix Capital Markets Group as an investment banking summer analyst within their Consumer and Industrial Products Group. The prior summer, he was a private equity summer analyst at Albaron Partners, a lower middle market private equity firm specializing in the healthcare sector. Outside of finance, he is a member of Greek Life, on the Club Squash team, and plays tennis. Following graduation, Hampton hopes to pursue a career in investment banking.

Alex Molinaro: Value Fund

Alex is from Chatham, N.J., pursuing a major in Economics with a concentration in Finance. This past summer, he worked at Merck & Co as a summer analyst within their US Controller’s Organization. Previously, he worked as a wealth management summer intern at Richmond-based Campbell Deegan Financial. Outside of SMIF, Alex is the president of his fraternity and was formerly a member of the UR ETF Fund.

Anna Snopkowski: Growth Fund

Anna is pursuing a major in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Management Entrepreneurship. She is from Ridgefield, Conn. This past summer, Anna worked at KeyBanc as an Equity Research summer analyst within the healthcare group. After graduation, Anna will continue with Equity Research at KeyBanc. In addition to SMIF, Anna has enjoyed various extracurricular activities, including being a member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.  

Danny Sollecito: Growth Fund

Danny is pursuing a major in Business Administration with a double concentration in Finance and Marketing, as well as a minor in Computer Science. He is from New Milford, N.J. This past summer, he interned at KPMG, a big four accounting firm specializing in audit, tax, and advisory services. He specialized in risk management, a core work stream of their independence group as a member of the private equity division. After graduation, he will be returning to KPMG as a Risk Management Associate. Outside of SMIF, Danny is involved on campus as a member of the Honor Council, a peer mentor for first-generation Richmond students, a student manager at Parsons Music Library, and a barista at Eight-Fifteen Cafe. 

John Sollecito: Value Fund

Sollecito

John is pursuing a major in Accounting with a concentration in Finance. He is from New Milford, New Jersey. This past summer, John interned at Deloitte in the Audit & Assurance group where he worked with clients in the financial services industry. After graduation, he will be returning to Deloitte full-time as an Audit & Assurance Assistant. Outside of SMIF, he works as a desk assistant at the Center of Student of Involvement and is a member of the university’s Accounting Society.

 Ben Stueck: Growth Fund

Ben is pursuing a major in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and minors in History and Law and Liberal Arts. He is from Radnor, Pa. This past summer, Ben worked for MoneyLion, a New York-based FinTech, as a Wealth and Investments intern. After graduation, he will be joining the Private Bank at J.P. Morgan as a Global Private Bank Analyst. Outside of SMIF, Ben holds a position on his fraternity's executive board and is an active member of several other organizations and extracurricular activities around campus.


Michael Todd: Growth Fund

Michael is pursuing a major in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Management-Entrepreneurship. This past summer, he interned within the finance department in the Richmond office at Winged Keel Group, an insurance brokerage firm specializing in private placement life insurance. During his sophomore year summer, Michael worked at PMF Capital in New York City as an Alternative Finance and Small Business Solutions Intern. Outside of SMIF, Michael is Secretary of Spider Blockchain Club and an avid member of his fraternity. He is from the Philadelphia area. 

Sarah Zhao: Growth Fund

Zhao

Sarah is an international student from China, and she is pursuing a dual degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Business Analytics and in Bachelor of Science of Psychology with a minor in Math. Last summer, she interned with Spider Management Company in Richmond, Va., as an investment analyst intern. In addition to SMIF, Sarah is a member of AKPsi as well as a choreographer of the Block Crew dance team. She likes traveling, dancing, and playing the drum set.
