What is your role, and how does sustainability intersect with your work responsibilities?
Sustainability is at the core of being a sustainability consultant, shaping both the purpose and practice of the role. It means translating complex environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges into actionable strategies that help clients create long-term value while reducing risk. The work involves guiding organizations through decarbonization pathways, strengthening sustainability reporting, and integrating responsible business principles into operations. Ultimately, the role blends technical expertise with forward-looking leadership to help clients navigate the transition to a more sustainable and resilient future.

Yes! I knew I wanted to work in sustainability when I started at Richmond.
What are a job incumbent's "must-haves" in a sustainability-focused role or task?
- Willingness to learn and think on your feet, this is a new topic area for most people
- Ability to keep up with current news and regulations
- Being detail-oriented and understanding the "why" of what you are doing
What are your thoughts on the future of sustainability work?
As sustainability becomes integrated into core business strategy, roles will need to expand beyond reporting and compliance into innovation, resilience planning, and transformative change.
What advice would you give to current Robins School students interested in pursuing careers in sustainability?
Be open-minded and learn what you're interested in now. Even within sustainability, there are so many different topic areas, so explore what interests you.
