Excel Exam Information

Excel is a fundamental business tool, and business school graduates should maintain at least a working level of competency in its functionality and applications. In addition, many courses within the Robins School of Business expect that students are familiar with and comfortable working with Excel. To assure our students possess at least a basic level of competency in Excel, the Robins School requires that all pre-business students beginning with the Fall 2018 entering class obtain a grade of at least 80 percent on an Excel competency exam prior to declaring an Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics-Business major or a Business minor. Students will have three attempts to obtain this grade.

The Excel Competency Exam tests basic Excel skills along the following topic areas:

  • General Concepts (such as cells, worksheets, formulas, IF statements)
  • Data Sorting and Filtering
  • General Formatting
  • Conditional Formatting
  • Autofill
  • Tables
  • Data Tables
  • Named Ranges
  • Spark Lines
  • Charts
  • Pivot Tables
  • Printing & Page Setups
  • Functions
    • Text: Left, Right, Trim, Mid, Concatenate
    • Logical: If, And, Or
    • Lookups: VLookup, HLookup
    • Numeric: Average, AverageIf, AverageIfS, Sum, SumIf, SumIfs, Max, Min, Count, CountIf,    CountIfs, Round, SumProduct
    • Dates: NetworkDays, WorkDay
