September 2015

MBA Community:

Dr. Richard Coughlan

My daughter participated in a unique event last week. She was one of nearly 200 runners in the RVA Relays, a cross-country relay race that took place at a public park after sunset on a course that was only partially illuminated by banks of temporary lights. It was a fascinating spectacle. For the entire race, I stood near the finish line and watched and listened as runners handed their batons to teammates after running 2,500 meters. What struck me most were the cheers of encouragement from parents, fans and fellow runners for every participant who crossed the finish line.

This edition of the newsletter provides a great look at six professionals who are sprinting through their careers. Two of them finished their laps through The Richmond MBA fairly recently and received cheers of encouragement from family, friends and faculty at graduation. Alumnus Joe Beidenharn just landed a great job at GE Lighting, and Brian Beckmann made a career switch and found a terrific position at Southern States Cooperative. Their profiles can be found below.

You can also read about four individuals who are just starting their laps in the MBA program. We were thrilled to welcome two married couples - Derek and Victoria Vaughn and Robert and Cassidy Wagner – to The Richmond MBA this year. They will tell you there is nothing like having a partner to help you maintain your pace and achieve your personal best. We hope you enjoy the story.
